Im 40 and work shifts with a young family. I primarily do 3 full body sessions per week. Get my steps in and throw in cardio when I can. We all work differently but I focus on strength, no more than 60 mins. Compound lifts with some volume for the weak areas. 5x5 for my compounds and just work to failure for the rest. It’s how I trained as a pro rugby player and still works now. If I do anything elder I end up fluffy and weak. X

You can distribute your body parts in your workouts any way you like, as long as your volume is evened out and frequency in maximized otherwise you may do too much one day vs another and end up doing trash volume on some days or incur in too much fatigue to recover from for the next day, or hit some body parts less frequently. But there is no rule on how you can to combine the muscle groups in your workouts.

It probably depends how much time you have at the gym... I find legs are such an extensive muscle to work that I actually split my leg workout into two separate leg-only days. That being said, to echo posts before me - as long as you stick to it and stay consistent, you will see progress. Listen to your body and do what works for you!

I have no scientific advice, but I must say that people whokeep improving are those who enjoy what they're doing and are consistent. My personal thought is if you enjoy what you're doing it's going to last. I am in a similar situation where I want to defy what science says and do the things that make me happy and see if overtime I make better progress. I have been feeling like my whole life is a revolving around the gym, I had one personal training session in my life and the guy made a comment alls you need is 45 minutes and I would like to stick to that plan!

Both are two major groups that involve lots of other muscles. Because of this, when trained on the same day, you might incouter a problem with recovery.
